Ostor

We can’t believe how lucky we are to have Ostor who joined us from the Zoldmali Kennel in Hungary in September 2012, aged four months. We and his breeder had been smitten with him from a very early age, and closely watched the litter develop before deciding that he was the one to join our family. Ostor is from a superb quality litter, and has many highly successful dogs in his pedigree, from both the field and show ring.

We find him to be handsome, funny and affectionate. He is also an exciting and wide-ranging hunter with a very keen nose for fur and feather. He holds a stylish point, and retrieves to hand with a soft mouth. Add to that superb conformation and wire coat, and Ostor is everything we hoped he would be, and much more.

What a wonderful start he has had to his show career, and we are thrilled with what judges have written about him in their critiques. His main achievements in Puppy were as follows:

  • Best Puppy in Breed and Best of Breed at his first open show, aged six months
  • Best Puppy in Breed at LKA Championship Show aged six months, qualifying him for Crufts 2013
  • Best Puppy in Show at Merseyside Gundog Club’s open show aged eight months
  • Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts 2013, aged nine months, qualifying him for Crufts 2014
  • Gundog Puppy Group 1 and Reserve Best Puppy in Show at an all group open show
  • Best Puppy in Show at Gundog Club of North Wales
  • Best Puppy in Show at the HWVA Championship Show aged ten months under a breed specialist
  • Puppy Group 2 at an all group open show
  • Puppy Group 4 at a gundog open show
  • Our Dogs/Dorwest Top HWV Puppy Dog 2013

After a break from showing, Ostor came back to the ring in style, winning Best in Show at Caernarfon & District Canine Society aged 21 months in March 2014, then a week later winning the Limit Dog class at Crufts 2014. He gained his Kennel Club stud book number at Welsh Kennel Club championship show in August 2014 by being placed 1st in a large Open Dog class (his first time in Open at champ show level).

Ostor has sired  some lovely puppies, many of whom we keep in touch with, and as well as being much loved family members, his progeny are doing well in the field and show ring. He is sire to Best Puppy in Breed at Crufts 2016 (Lanokk Violeska bred by us) as well as Crufts 2017. To see photos of Ostor’s progeny click here
